NAVID GHAEM MAGHAMI - Winner of Farhang Foundation's 2012 Nowruz Banner Contest

Navid Ghaem Maghami, a San Francisco-based graphic designer, has been selected as the winner of Farhang Foundation's 2012 Nowruz Banner Contest. His winning design was featured on light pole banners on various major streets across Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, including the highly trafficked Westwood, Wilshire, and Ventura Boulevards.

"In creating the Nowruz banner, my goal was to design an image that draws both traditional and contemporary," said Navid Ghaem Maghami. "Gol-o-morgh (bird and flower) is a cultural symbol that is deeply rooted in Persian literature. Through a contemporary rendition of this iconic image, I have created a design that evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing for the past, with hope and joy for a new beginning."

NASRIN BEYRAGHDAR - Winner of Farhang Foundation’s 2011 Nowruz Banner Contest

Farhang Foundation selected Nasrin Beyraghdar, a graphic designer from Irvine, California, as the winner of the 2011 Nowruz Banner Contest. Her design concept was featured on Farhang's Nowruz banners, which were displayed along the Wilshire Corridor, Westwood Boulevard, and other parts of town on March 1-31, 2011.

“I was really excited when I first learned that Farhang Foundation had opened a contest of this nature,” said Beyraghdar. “I felt this would be a great opportunity to merge my passion for artistry and my heritage, especially in honor of a celebration like Nowruz, at the heart of which is the idea of renewal and the emergence of awareness.”
