PERSIAN 101: Farhang Foundation Partners with Star Education to Launch After School Program.
K-6 program will be offered at two public elementary schools in Beverly Hills, with plans to expand to other schools in the future.
LOS ANGELES, AUGUST 31, 2015- Farhang Foundation, in collaboration with STAR Education, a leading nonprofit at the forefront of innovative education programs and community-based cultural enrichment projects for more than 25 years, will be launching "Persian: 101", an after school Persian language program for K-6 students.
"Farhang Foundation is thrilled to launch this program as it will serve one of the most important segments of our population, young students," said Dariush Gabbay, Farhang Foundation Trustee and Chair of its Community Education and Outreach Committee. "Our goal is to inspire students from all cultural backgrounds to learn the Persian language and other aspects of Iranian culture, which are major components of the diverse landscape of Southern California. Planting the seeds of cultural diversity at such a young age will benefit our society immensely."
As of September 8 2015, "Persian: 101" will be available at two public elementary schools, El Rodeo School and Hawthorne School, both in the Beverly Hills Unified School District. The program will offer K-6 students an introduction to Iranian culture and the Persian language, encompassing reading, writing, art, music, dance and more. Farhang hopes to expand this program to other schools in Southern California in the future.
Spearheaded by Farhang's Community Education and Outreach Committee, "Persian: 101" will be developed and facilitated in collaboration with STAR Education, which already services more than 500 schools in over 60 school districts, reaching over a million students and their families every year.
"Persian: 101" is not Farhang Foundation's first undertaking in the school system. In Fall 2013, on the heels of the tremendously successful exhibition, The Cyrus Cylinder and Ancient Persia: A New Beginning at the Getty Villa, Farhang's newly launched Community and Education Outreach committee spearheaded a number of cultural and educational programs aimed at increasing awareness of ancient Persian history at a number of local public and private schools.
