Update on Our Nowruz Contests
The submissions period for the 2015 Nowruz Banner Contest has officially come to a close. We received over 100 submissions this year and are thankful to all the participating artists for sharing their work with us. While it will be a difficult decision, we will be announcing the winning submission later this year. Stay tuned for more info! We have also closed the submissions period for our annual Nowruz Programming Proposal Contest. As in previous years, we called on talented and creative individuals to submit proposals for a theatrical and/or musical production to be featured as part of our Annual Nowruz Celebration at LACMA. In the coming months, we will be announcing the winning proposal. In the meantime, we invite you to visit Farhang.org/Nowruz to learn more about these contests and to browse our gallery of winning submissions from previous years.
Freedom: A Shared Dream
Deadline for Phase II: October 27, 2014
In May of this year, Farhang Foundation launched an international urban art competition, seeking submissions from professional artists for a site-specific artwork that commemorates the ideals of Cyrus the Great. Upon completion, this artwork will be gifted by Farhang Foundation to the city of Los Angeles on behalf of the Iranian American community. We were overjoyed by the outpouring of enthusiasm for this competition and received nearly 300 applications! The submissions deadline officially ended August 15, 2014 and we are now inviting qualifying applicants to participate in Phase II of the competition by submitting a brief narrative along with sketches. The deadline for Phase II is October 27, 2014. Learn more about this historic project at Farhang.org/Freedom and stay tuned for more updates.
Passing of Mrs. Simin Behbahani, Recipient of the 2011 Farhang Heritage Awards!
It is with deep regret and sorrow that we learned about the passing of Mrs. Simin Behbahani, the most prominent contemporary Persian poet and the recipient of the 2011 Farhang Heritage Award.
Having been nominated twice for the Nobel Prize in literature and being the honoree of many international literary awards, she was one of the most outstanding figures of the modern Persian literature and widely regarded as the National Poet of Iran.
On behalf of the board of trustees and the entire Farhang Foundation family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends in Iran and around the world.
