Foundation’s Annual Short Film Festival 2011
Winners announced during live award ceremony on March 13th as part of Farhang Foundation’s Nowruz (Iranian New Year) Celebrations at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)
Los Angeles, CA, March 14, 2011 – The winners of the 2011 Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival have officially been announced. Red Wednesday (USA) by Nazanin Shirazi was named Best Short Film of the 2011 Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival, earning first place and the top prize of $10,000. Silky Eloquence (China) by Hossein Khandan came in second place and won $5,000. Rounding out the top three and the recipient of $3,000 was Walkers (USA) by Alborz Kamalizad.
This year’s film festival received 73 submissions from across the globe, including the United States, Iran, Canada, and China. All submissions were judged for originality, creativity, storytelling, production value, and visualization of Iranian heritage by a jury comprised of Farhang Foundation Board of Trustees and its film festival committee.
“We have proudly concluded yet another successful film festival,” said Mark Amin, Farhang Foundation trustee and chair of its film festival committee. “The diversity and quality of submissions received this year were remarkable and reaffirmed Farhang’s mission of celebrating Iranian heritage with the community at large. We are grateful to all who participated and congratulate the finalists.”
The winners of the 2011 Farhang Foundation Film Festival were announced during a live award ceremony at the Leo S. Bing Theater as part of Farhang Foundation’s Nowruz celebrations on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the LACMA.
Founded in 2009, the Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival has quickly become one of the leading festivals dedicated to celebrating Iranian heritage through short film, video and animation, aiming to spark and inspire the audience's interest in learning more about Iranian culture. Competing for $10,000 (first prize), $5,000 (second prize), and $3,000 (third prize), participants from all backgrounds – Iranian and non-Iranian alike – are invited to submit works that visualize some aspect of Iranian arts, crafts, cuisine, culture, geography, and history.
